Introduction

In a number of cases Backstage will return asset metadata that the requesting user shouldn't be able to playback, but still see. For example, if a user doesn't have a subscription that some asset requires then instead of totally hiding it from them we still return the metadata with some extra information to explain why they can't watch it. NOTE: If using products (instead of subscription tags) this blocked reason will exist on the Edition instead of the asset.

Currently supported blocked reasons

  • Availability Windows - Assets that have been announced but not yet released will include a blocked reason stating when they'll be available.
  • Geolocation - Backstage services can be configured to show geo-blocked assets to all users, applying blocked reasons to those that aren't available in the users region.
  • Entitlement - If the requesting user doesn't have entitlement to an asset then a blocked reason will be set.
  • Age - If the user is below the specified age for a given asset a blocked reason will be set.
